2012 Conc erts

ACADEMY SINGERS offers Blue Mountains residents and visitors colourful and innovative programs with professional instrumental and vocal soloists.  In recent years the choir has presented new and rarely performed works alongside well-loved classics of the mainstream: from 13th century Cantigas by Alfonso X ‘El sabio’ to Aulis Sallinen’s ‘Songs of the Sea’; from madrigals and motets  to the ‘Mi’kmaq Honour Song’ by Lydia Adams; from Mozart and Schubert to Bob Chilcott’s ‘Jubilate’.

Collaborations with local and regional ensembles from Penrith to Bathurst have broadened the choir’s scope further to include works for double choir by Gabrieli with Warrimoo Chorale and performances of ‘Mass of the Children’ by John Rutter with Penrith City Choir and three children’s choirs in St Finbar’s, Glenbrook and All Saints’ Cathedral, Bathurst.

In addition to mentoring the Blue Mountains Youth Choir, Academy Singers hosts regular participatory events for adult singers.  These ‘Singing Days’ explore major works of the choral repertoire with instrumental accompaniment and are open to members of Blue Mountains choirs and all interested singers.

Academy Singers rehearses on Tuesday evenings during term-time.  Anyone interested in joining the choir is welcome to attend a rehearsal.  To arrange this and for more information phone 4757 1237 or email info@academysingers.com.au
